USCIS Introduces Updates to Form N-400 for Naturalization Application, April 18, 2024
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has recently made important updates to the application process for naturalization (form N-400). Now, foreign nationals applying for naturalization can request an original or replacement Social Security number (SSN) or card directly through the N-400 form, eliminating the need to visit a Social Security Administration (SSA) office. Furthermore, the latest version of the N-400 form and the USCIS Policy Manual now include a third gender option, designated as “X,” to accommodate individuals identifying with a gender other than male or female.
Requesting Social Security Updates Starting April 1, 2024, applicants filing an N-400 application have the option to request an original or replacement social security card within the application itself. By selecting this option, the applicant’s immigration status will also be updated with the SSA, streamlining the process without requiring a visit to an SSA field office. However, additional information may be requested by the SSA if necessary.
Third Gender Option Available The updated N-400 form now offers “X” as a third gender option, reflecting the evolving understanding of gender identity. For applicants who have filed using a previous version of the N-400 and still have a pending application, it is possible to inform the USCIS of the desire to change the gender designation to “X.” Further instructions on updating a pending N-400 can be found on the USCIS website.
It’s important to note that selecting the “X” gender option on the N-400 form may entail a visit to an SSA office for obtaining a Social Security card or updating citizenship status, as indicated by the USCIS.
I was really frustrated and disappointed by this time and didn't know what to do. Then, I came across Mr. Samar's immigration firm, F4India while checking online and saw so many successful 221g refusal applications, similar to mine done by his team. I then contacted Mr Samar and explained to him my problem. He reassured me that everything would be taken care of and that they would eventually properly present my case so that it would get accepted. I was then contacted by Ms. Anisha, Mr. Samar's paralegal, who guided me properly as to how to prepare my documents before submitting them to the US Consulate. It's mainly due to their efforts that eventually they got my documents accepted by the Consulate and they issued me the visa. I will definitely recommend other clients to them too who are facing similar problems like me.
