Medical Exam Instructions for U.S. Visa Interview at U.S. Consulate
Now that you intend to apply for an Immigrant visa, the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai has authorized the physicians listed below to administer your medical examination. Please make your examination arrangements with any panel physician site on the list at least seven days before your immigrant visa appointment. These physicians are licensed to practice locally, and the examinations they give to visa applicants conform to standards prescribed by the United States Public Health Service.
The physician may need four to seven days to prepare the results of your medical examination. Collect the report from the panel physician and bring it to the Consulate on the day of your visa interview. If the medical is in Digital form, you will hand over a digital Receipt, and no sealed envelope will be given to you.

Please schedule your medical examination as soon as you receive your interview letter and for at least seven days BEFORE your immigrant visa appointment.

- Original Interview letter;
- DS-260 confirmation page;
- Original Valid Passport;
- Four (4) recent passport-style photographs; and
- All medical records of vaccinations, prior illnesses or treatments.
Medical Exam Requirements for Immigrant Visa Applicants
All applicants: Physical Examination
Ages 2-14: Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) Test
15 years+/children with a history or exposure to TB: Chest X-ray
18 to 44 years old: (CXR) Syphilis Test
18 to 24 years old: Gonorrhea Test
Required Vaccinations
- Panel physicians must verify that applicants have met certain vaccination requirements or that one or more of the following vaccinations is medically inappropriate.
- If you have already received some or all of the required vaccinations, bring your vaccination records for verification. The Consulate accepts only vaccinations verified or administered at the panel sites listed below.
- The following vaccines are required:
- DT/DTP/DTaPT TDMeasles (or MR or MMR), Mumps (or MMR) Rubella (or MR or MMR); Rotavirus Hib Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B Meningococcal, Varicella Pneumococcal Influenza, COVID-19 Vaccination

INELIGIBILITY BASED ON HEALTH AND MEDICAL GROUNDS – INA 212(A)(1)
INELIGIBILITY Grounds
a. (U) Communicable Disease of Public Health Significance: INA 212(a)(1)(i) provides that an individual is ineligible for a visa if the individual has a communicable disease of public health significance.
b. (U) Vaccinations: INA 212(a) (1) (A) (ii) provides that an individual is ineligible for an Immigrant Visa if the individual lacks the required vaccinations.
c. (U) Physical or Mental Disorders: INA 212(a) (1)(A)(iii) of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides that an individual is ineligible for a visa if the individual has a physical or mental disorder and behaviour associated with that disorder that may pose, or has posed, a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the individual or others, or a history of such behaviour likely to occur or lead to other harmful behaviour.
d. (U) Drug Addict or Abuse: INA 212(a)(1)(A)(iv) of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides that an individual is ineligible for a visa if the individual is a drug abuser or drug addict.
